Xiaomi, in its internal technology awards ceremony, has outlined its future strategy , with the main focus being on in-house chip and OS development. In the event, founder and chief executive Lei Jun highlighted the company’s goal to be self-reliant by producing its own software and hardware. He also made several important announcements.

The founder made it clear that Xiaomi sees chips, operating systems, and artificial intelligence as the foundation of its future competitiveness and long-term ecosystem growth. This includes its smartphone and smart home business. The executive also emphasized the importance of research and development for the brand.
It was revealed that a total of 154 project applications were submitted from ten departments. Out of this, a total of 66 projects reached their final review stage. These projects cover various niches, such as chip design, imaging systems, AI platforms, and advanced materials. Xiaomi also outlined that both the volume and quality of submissions set new internal records.
XRING 01 was the standout project from the company
In the ceremony, Xiaomi said that XRING 01 was its stand-out project . It is a flagship mobile chip developed fully in-house. The tech giant says the release makes it the first mainland Chinese company to deliver a 3nm class mobile chip. The executive says that the brand looks forward to developing such interesting and important projects in the year 2026.
Lei Jun further revealed the company’s plan to achieve a self-developed OS and a self-developed chip by the end of the current year. It looks like it wants to work on a large-scale AI model implementation on its devices. The company has already spent about CNY 150 billion ($21 billion) on core research. Xiaomi further plans to invest another $200 billion ($28 billion) in the coming five years.
