Xiaomi initiates a global recall for its 20,000mAh power bank

On its official website, Xiaomi has announced the recall of its 33W 20,000mAh (Integrated Cable) power bank over safety issues. The company claims that a limited number of devices, which were manufactured between August and September 2024, may face issues related to overheating. In rare cases, these power banks might even pose a fire hazard.

Only the 33W power banks with a battery capacity of 20,000mAh, and the model number PB2030MI, are affected. These units also come with an integrated charging cable. This can help you identify whether your device is part of the affected batch. Both Blue and Tan color variants are included in the recall. The rest of Xiaomi’s power banks remain safe to use, and there’s no need to worry.

The power bank is no less than a time bomb

Xiaomi adds on the statement that “Although the number of known incidents is limited, ensuring high product quality standards and the safety of our users is our top priority. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.”

The main reason behind the potential safety issue has been traced back to the supplier . As per the tech giant, the problem originates from “certain raw materials” supplied during the manufacturing process. It adds that only a handful of units sold worldwide are affected.

If you own this particular power bank or are unsure if your unit is a part of the recall, you can visit the official support page and check by entering the power bank’s serial number. If the product is part of the recall, you will be prompted to get a refund or replacement.
