When it comes to smart tags, users have many Android-compatible options readily available on the market. Brands like Samsung and Motorola offer their models, the SmartTag2 and Moto Tag 2 . For iOS users, there is Apple’s AirTag2. It appears that Xiaomi wants a piece in the smart tag space . A new leak sheds light on the company’s first smart tag, called the Xiaomi Tag. We also have some technical details about it.
Xiaomi’s smart tag may come in two versions
This isn’t the first time we’re hearing about the Xiaomi smart tag. Last year, it was reported that the smart tag would debut on December 26th , but that didn’t happen. Now, leaker Kacper Skrzypek on X , based on the translated files within HyperOS, has revealed that Xiaomi working on its own item tracker. He notes that it’ll be similar to Galaxy SmartTag 2. But probably the important aspect is that there will be two versions of the Xiaomi Tag: one with UWB and one without.
The tracker will get its power from a CR2032 coin battery. This means that the battery is most likely user-replaceable, similar to Samsung’s. Besides that, Kacper has shared with Android Authority more details, highlighting how the Xiaomi Tag would work.

It may be China-exclusive, for now
Pairing it is simple, apparently just peeling off the label and bringing it close to your phone. Users will be able to view the Xiaomi Tag’s location on a map. Much like other smart tags, users can also receive notifications when they leave it behind. The strings suggest that the Xiaomi Tag may allow other nearby users to “trust” the tracker, skipping any “unwanted tracker” alerts when it travels with them.
While all that sounds good, the leaker points to a China-only launch, at least for now. But then again, things don’t seem to be conclusive yet. We’re hoping the Xiaomi Tag makes its way to the global markets, especially considering its usual aggressive pricing strategy.
