Smart tags have become increasingly popular, with Apple , Samsung, and Motorola launching their own versions. It appears that a Chinese brand may soon join the list. The company in question is Xiaomi , which, according to a new rumor , is working on a new Xiaomi Tag smart tracker. This will be a new product category for the brand.
Xiaomi Tag smart tracker could launch on December 26th
Leaker Repeater 002 on Weibo suggests that Xiaomi is finalizing the device and will apparently launch it on December 26th in China alongside the Xiaomi 17 Ultra flagship and other accessories like the Xiaomi Watch 5 and Buds 6. It remains to be seen whether it will expand to global markets at some point in the future.
Anyway, the Xiaomi Tag will reportedly use UWB technology like the Apple AirTag. This should enable more precise, short-range locating. Perhaps the bigger addition is that it could work with Google’s Find My Device network, which relies on nearby Android phones to anonymously relay a tag’s location even when it’s offline.
Price will be a key factor
Motorola’s Moto Tag already offers UWB and Google’s network. But what could apparently make the Xiaomi Tag stand out from the competition is its price. The Xiaomi Tag is allegedly going to cost under $25 , at least in China. In comparison, the Apple AirTag costs $25, and the Moto Tag is currently available for 20. If the December 26th launch is indeed in the planning, we don’t have to wait much longer to find out more.
