Google is now allowing you to change your existing Gmail address, while keeping everything else intact. We wrote about this feature last month , as the company released the option for Hindi users.

Google now allows you to change your cringey Gmail address

Well, now the feature has spread to a ton more markets. Google has updated its support page, and the feature is available in Europe, I can confirm that. The option is available via Google account settings. Do note that it may not be available to everyone just yet, as it’s rolling out in stages.

Users have been requesting this option for a long time. Many of you got stuck with terrible Gmail addresses initially, due to poor choices and the unavailability of better options. Well, now’s your chance to change that.

Google allows you to change your username, hence the part in front of the ‘@gmail.com’. “If you choose, you can change your Google Account email that ends in gmail.com to a new address that ends in gmail.com,” says Google’s support page.

If you do that, your previous Google Account email will become an alternate email address. You’ll receive emails to both your old and new addresses, and your data won’t be affected. Your photos, messages, emails, etc., will stay intact.

You can change back to your previous email address at any time

Google also notes that you can change back to your previous email address at any time. Do note that you cannot create a new Google Account email ending in gmail.com for 12 months after you do it initially, though. You also won’t be able to delete your new email address.

And yes, you’ll be able to sign into Google services with either your old or new Gmail address; it doesn’t matter. So, how can you check if the option is available and actually do it? Well, read on.

The first thing you need to do is head to http://myaccount.google.com/google-account-email . Then, navigate to Personal Info -> Email -> Google Account email -> Change Google Account email. There you’ll be able to read about what that entails, and ultimately change your username.
