Popular music streaming app YouTube Music is getting a big Now Playing redesign on Android and iOS. This comes after testing it in November. The update rearranges control buttons, relocates certain features, and brings a dual-pane design to YouTube Music. Google has been making quite a few changes to the app in recent times. For its 10th anniversary, the app gained a ‘Taste Match’ feature and the new music discovery feature one-upped Spotify.

YouTube Music’s Now Playing screen gets dual-pane redesign

The Up-Next page offers a new dual-pane view in YouTube Music, making it pretty seamless. However, the actions carousel disappears if you slide up the drag bar. The view closes when you exit Now Playing.

Looks to be a Server-side rollout

The YouTube Music Now Playing redesign appears to be a server-side update, as it’s not available to everyone. You can try Force Stop from App Info or remove the app from the multitasking menu to see if you can get it.

In the midst of this, there are reports of playback issues surfacing online. These coincide with the interface changes. A Reddit user complains about issues that range from songs not starting to play, playlists failing to advance automatically and buffering while playing. These issues were reportedly not present before, hinting that they may have sneaked in while YouTube was pushing the new UI behind the scenes.
